At last night’s Vigo County School Board meeting the board voted to move ahead with plans for a new swimming pool facility.
The board decided to ask the city for permission to build at Voorhees Park.
The board said that it was the most centralized location in relation to the three high schools.
The city parks board will still have to approve the idea.
The board also approved Garmong Construction as the builder and CSO architects as the designer.
Total cost for the project is set at $9.8 million.
That is just under the state limit of $10 million that would require voters to approve the project by ballot.
In other school board action the board voted to reduce the number of hours for part time employees to less than 30 hours per week.
Under the new rules of Obamacare anyone working over 30 hours per week would have to be provided health care insurance.
Officials say that would have cost the corporation thousands more in premiums. The school corporation does plan to increase the hourly wage of these workers so that even though they will work less they will still make the same.
The corporation will also be hiring more people to make up for the hours that current staff will not be working.
