Taylor Swift 's only been releasing music since 2006, but she's been so successful at it that she's now racked up more top-40 hits than The Rolling Stones .
According to Billboard , "Everything Has Changed," Taylor's duet with Ed Sheeran , has become her 42nd top-40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. In their 50-year career, the Stones managed 41, as did Jay-Z , who's been on the scene since the mid-90s, and the late R&B legend Marvin Gaye .
Of course, Taylor has been able to score so many hits because she usually releases multiple cuts from her new albums in advance, and they all end up selling hundreds of thousands of downloads, which rockets them up the chart. Back in the day, before digital downloads, this never happened.
It's quite possible that Taylor will move up on the list of all-time top-40 artists quickly when she releases her next album. If five tracks from that future disc end up in the top 40 -- a very likely scenario -- she'll surpass Aretha Franklin , James Brown and Stevie Wonder . If seven tracks end up in the top 40, she'll be tied with Madonna , who's had 49 top-40 hits.
