Illinois State Job Applicants Won't Be Asked About Criminal Convictions, At First

job application
job application

Applying for a state job in Illinois is about to get a little easier if you have a criminal record.

Governor Quinn issued an order banning state agencies from asking about past convictions on job applications and he says that will help qualified job-seekers to at least get an interview.

State agencies are still required to do background checks and inquire about criminal records later in the application process and they are not required to hire ex-offenders.

Critics say it's better to know about a criminal record from the beginning.
