Nearly half of Indiana school children receive free or reduced lunches and officials say that not every student that qualifies has signed up.
The number of students who qualify is up 27 percent since 2004.
In Vigo County alone nearly 53 percent of students are on the program.
That’s more than 8,200.
The main reason the numbers are up is due to the economy and the rules have changed as to who is eligible.
The poverty rate is also up.
Nearly 25% of Indiana Kids live in poverty.
