Vectren Corporation is embarking on a $650 million dollar improvement plan to upgrade its distribution mains and transmission pipelines.
Vectren supplies natural gas to 570,000 customers in 48 Indiana counties.
The upgrades are to comply with federal pipeline safety rules.
The improvements aren’t cheap and you the customer gets to pay for them.
Vectren has already filed for a rate hike with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.
If the rate-increase plan is approved the average bill will increase by $100 between 2015 and 2021.
Pipeline replacement work already is underway in 49 Indiana cities.
