The Vigo County Election Board voted this week to move ahead with a plan to use 18 vote centers starting in 2014. The new voting centers will replace the precincts throughout the county. The vote center plan has now been approved by the Vigo County Board of Commissioners, the Election Board, and the Vigo County Council.
The Vigo County Annex will be open two weeks before an election for absentee voting.
One week before an election, seven of the voting centers, Baesler’s Market, the former Indiana State Police post, Valley Grill, Booker T. Washington Community Center, New Life Fellowship Church, West Terre Haute Community Center and Kroger North will open for absentee ballots The final 10 vote centers will be open on election day.
Those sites are the Prairieton Methodist Church, New Goshen Firehouse, Wabash Valley Fairgrounds, Riley Fire Department, Lawton Byrum VFW Post No. 972, Sandcut Firehouse, Blackhawk Firehouse, Pimento Firehouse, the National Guard Armory on Maple Avenue and the Vigo County Public Library.
