Bosma Says That General Assembly May Have To Settle Dispute Between Ritz And Pence

Indiana Republican House Speaker Brian Bosma says the General Assembly will likely have to step in to the conflict between Democratic Schools Superintendent Glenda Ritz and the Republican administration of Governor Mike Pence.

Bosma did not say exactly what lawmakers would do during comments at the Indiana Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative preview Monday.

He did dismiss suggestions that Ritz be removed as chairwoman of the state board of education or that the superintendent be appointed by the governor.

Pence on Friday asked a national school boards group to step into the ongoing power struggle after Ritz abruptly ended a Board of Education meeting over concerns that more of her powers would be shifted to a newly-created Pence education agency.
