Now that new albums by Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus have debuted at #1, it's time for Lady Gaga to have a turn. Billboard reports that her new album ARTPOP is on target to enter the album chart at the top next week.
Industry sources tell Billboard that the album is likely to move around 260,000 copies by Sunday, though perhaps her appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend will boost that a bit. If she hits that figure, she'll be right around the ballpark of Katy's PRISM , which sold 286,000 copies in its first week, and Miley's Bangerz, which sold 270,000 copies.
ARTPOP will be Gaga's second #1 album, following Born This Way . You may recall that that album sold more than a million copies in its first week, thanks to a controversial stunt which saw it priced at just 99 cents on Amazon for two days. Billboard later set a rule which would prohibit such deeply discounted sales from counting towards a new album's first-week tallies.
In other Gaga news, a teaser trailer for her upcoming ABC Special Lady Gaga & the Muppets' Holiday Spectacular recently debuted on The View and now you can see it online. It shows Gaga in a pink fur outfit, massive pink feather hat, long blonde wig and pink sunglasses asking Kermit and the rest of the Muppets, "How do we make this the greatest finale in the history of finales?" "Ooh, ooh, me!" volunteers Gonzo. "Chickens!"
The special airs November 28 at 9:30 p.m. on ABC.
