Those that are opposed to amending Indiana's constitution to include a gay marriage ban say that Illinois' approval of same-sex marriage could help their cause.
The thought is that Illinois’s approval of gay marriage would encourage those in favor in Indiana to fight harder.
Those that are for the amendment say that what Illinois does has little effect here.
Illinois is set to join 14 other states and the District of Columbia in allowing same-sex marriage when Governor Quinn signs the recently approved bill.
Indiana's other bordering states, Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky, all ban same-sex marriage in their constitutions.
