Welterweight boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. has agreed to fight challenger Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
Alvarez is the middleweight champion and holds a 42-0-1 record with 30 KO’s.
Mayweather Jr., 44-0, 26 KO’s, still owns a junior middleweight title after beating Miguel Cotto in May 2012 and will move up in weight class to fight Alvarez.
For years many have wanted to see Mayweather take on the challenge of fighting a younger, bigger and more powerful opponent. Alvarez, 22, is Mexico’s most popular fighter and is coming off of his biggest win of his career after beating Austin Trout in a unanimous decision on April 27th.
Mayweather Jr vs Alvarez will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on September 14th this year.
