The Terre Haute Parks Board has decided to name the land surrounding Memorial Stadium on the city’s east side Veterans Memorial Park.
Until now the grounds had no official name.
The property is actually owned by Vigo County and leased to the city, which subleases to Indiana State University.
County commissioners had approved of the name change last year.
ISU pays the city $10 per year as part of the 99 year lease.
The university has an option to terminate the agreement at any point after Oct. 1, 2016.
The Vigo County Veterans Council asked for the change to honor veterans from both the city and county.
The group plans to sell up to 100,000 bricks at $50 per brick to line the walking trail.
Each brick would have up to three lines for the name and military service of a U.S. veteran.
