Controversy rages in Rockville over a police shooting of a pet.
A Dachshund-Chihuahua mix named Otis was hit by a truck on Friday May 10th.
The dog was not killed and according to a report from News 10, resident Bryan Lewis said that he offered to take the dog to a vet for treatment, even assuming responsibility for any vet bills, but was refused.
The dog was shot in the head by Officer Michael Pivowar.
Rockville Police say that policy and procedure was followed.
The debate is why the dog was shot when someone offered to take the animal to a vet for treatment but wasn’t allowed to.
Was it a mercy killing? That’s something the residents of Rockville will have to decide and then tell their police department if they want the policy changed.
