Subaru says that it will invest $400 million to expand its plant in Lafayette.
That will mean and addition to the current factory of over 500,000 square feet and 900 new employees by 2016.
Subaru will build the Impreza model which has only been built in Japan till now.
Subaru currently builds 3 models of their own plus Camry’s under contract for Toyota.
The expansion of the facility will bring its annual capacity from approximately 300,000 vehicles to about 400,000 vehicles.
More than 3,600 people currently work at the company's Lafayette plant.
