To say that American Idol's ratings haven't been great this season is an understatement.  But short of having Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj settle their differences in a cage match, what can be done to get more people to tune in?  Booted contestant Amber Holcomb has a suggestion: a season of redemption.

Specifically, Amber says she'd love to see American Idol invite past contestants who didn't win to return to the stage and give them another chance to compete.  Speaking with reporters on a conference call on Friday, Amber said, "Maybe pick like one or two from each season and have them all come back and battle it out.  That would be soooo incredible, I think!"

Asked which particular past competitors she'd like to see back on American Idol, Amber mused, "I would love to see Joshua [ Ledet ] back," and then laughed, "Well, I guess Jennifer Hudson wouldn't come back 'cause she's, like, the biggest star!"

Amber added, "But, I mean, even Jessica [ Sanchez ], [or] me....I feel like we should all get a second chance."

The Texas teenager also told reporters that besides music, she definitely wants to do some acting in the future, and thinks the show Glee would be a great showcase for her talents.  Are you listening, producers?

American Idol returns Wednesday night as the top three battle it out, each singing three numbers.  Alicia Keys will perform on the results show.
