An Illinois man has been arrested for illegal commercial fishing on the Wabash.
Illinois conservation police officers arrested 34 year old Aaron Taylor of Darwin, Illinois, at his home.
Police say that their investigation shows that Taylor had been harvesting shovelnose sturgeon from the Wabash River and selling the sturgeon eggs for several years.
66 year old Larry L. Bryan, who is also from Darwin, Ill., was also cited for his alleged part in the crime.
Eggs from female shovelnose sturgeon living in the Wabash River are caught as the swim up stream to spawn.
Their eggs are harvested and sold as caviar.
Taylor will face felony charges in Illinois and if he is convicted he could go to jail for up to five years and face a $25,000 fine.
