Illinios State Police have their hands full with Firearm Owner's Identification Program or FOID card requests, so they count on the courts to filter out anyone who doesn't qualify.
But, that's not always happening.
Lawmakers want to add an extra 50 dollars on to certain gun offenses to help fund education programs for circuit judges and clerks, so they know exactly when to report cases of mental illness. An audit released last year, found some big flaws in the system
The bill was just introduced has a long ways to go before becoming law.
