Train is gearing up for their big Mermaids of Alcatraz summer tour with Gavin DeGraw and The Script , and they're reminding fans about their current album, California 37 , by releasing a special "Mermaids of Alcatraz Tour Edition" of the disc, which is in stores now.  In addition all the songs on the original album, the disc includes two unreleased tracks, a version of John Lennon 's "Imagine" and some live tracks.  And lead singer Pat Monahan insists the re-release isn't some kind of cash grab.

"It's not as much about 'Hey, let's try to double dip and get people's money the second time,' as it sometimes looks," says Pat. "It's more like, we just need to bring the record back into everyone's vision while we're out on tour.  You know, bring it back out there."

The new songs on the album are tracks that Train is happy to be able to get out there.  "One of the songs, 'To Be Loved,' was for a soundtrack, and the other is 'Futon,'" which didn't make the record, that we all really wanted it to make the record," explains Pat.  "But it just didn't fit.  And so we've had that song sitting around, [saying], 'What are we gonna do with it?' And so now...it's more highlighted than it would've been if it was on the record."

And if you prefer to multi-task while listening to the new songs, Train also has a brand-new video game available as a free download for your Apple or Android device.  Called 50 Ways to Survive , it's based on the band's hit "50 Ways to Say Goodbye," and it allows you to play as a member of the band, dodging lions and other dangers while you collect golden crowns.  But have the guys in the band actually played it?  Pat says he has, and he's hurting now.

"I played the game a lot," he laughs. "I drove from Rhode Island to New York City so I had three hours and I played the crap out of this game.  It is the funnest thing, I swear to God.  I have, like, weird tennis elbow because of this game.  It's really hard for a guy like me."

Pat says that the young guys on the Train road crew are ruling the game because "their thumbs are programmed without even thinking."  While he finds it "really difficult," he says, "It's a lot of fun and the guys who created the game are brilliant."  Proceeds from the game will go to Family House, the San Francisco-based charity that's also the recipient of the proceeds from Train's signature wines and chocolates.

The Mermaids of Alcatraz tour kicks off July 11.
