If you travel through Indianapolis on I-70 get ready for some delays and detours later this fall.
The Indiana Department of Transportation will be increasing the height of seven overpasses along Interstate 65 and Interstate 70 at the South Split.
INDOT reports more than 400 oversized vehicles have struck South Split bridge overpasses since 1999, and the pace has increased in recent years.
INDOT’s attempts to address these bridge strikes through low-cost measures like advisory signs has not worked.
Since these drivers either can’t read the signs or don’t know how big the trucks are that they drive, the state will have to spend close to $20 million the project.
The project should start in late August or early September.
