A Clark County Indiana deputy and an Indiana State Police K-9 dog were shot during a standoff in Sellersburg Monday afternoon.
Sellersburg is in south-central Indiana near Louisville, Kentucky.
Officials said the standoff ended with the suspect being taken into custody.
The suspect had his two children with him, but released them.
Police said the situation started with a call to the police when the suspect's wife called to get help for his mental issues.
The officer was in stable condition and did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
He was alert and talking when he arrived to the hospital.
The police dog did not survive.
