Indiana State Fair officials are keeping a close eye on attendance this year.
Many schools in Indiana are planning to begin the school year earlier than normal.
Several schools around the state are switching to a balanced calendar which means that the school year will start while the fair is underway.
That could mean lower attendance and possibly lower participation in some 4-H activities.
In 2009, the fair changed to 17 days, which was increased from 12 days to accommodate the earlier school start dates.
Officials say they don’t currently have any plans to start the fair any earlier in upcoming years to accommodate early school starts.
