The city of Terre Haute is like many other towns throughout America.
Lots of projects and expenses and not enough money.
There has been lots of talk already this year on the lack of money and having to borrow to cover short term cash shortages.
City leaders are already working on a budget for 2014.
About ¾ of the city’s “general fund” is spent on police and fire protection while the rest goes to daily operating expenses.
For 2014, union contracts have police and fire salaries going up by almost 2.5 percent.
Salaries for many city employees outside of public safety have not been set for next year but it is fairly safe say they are not likely to go up.
