This morning at 8:43, Indiana State Police troopers and emergency agencies from Vermillion and Fountain counties responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 74 near the 4 mile marker.
Preliminary investigation revealed a black 2006 Dodge pickup driven by 66-year-old Bruce Gray of Oxford, OH was westbound on I-74 and drifted off the left side (south) of the roadway. Gray then overcorrected, traveled back across both lanes, struck a guardrail, and rolled over four to five times on the north side of the roadway.
He and his wife, Darlene Gray, age 65, were airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment of multiple lacerations, abrasions, and complaint of internal pain. Seatbelts were in use and no tickets were issued.
The name of the hospital is not known at this time. Trooper Mike Laney commented, “The seatbelts used by the Grays definitely reduced injuries and possibly saved their lives. This is a perfect example of the effectiveness of restraints”.
