There have been problems at the Edgar County jail in Paris, for several years now.
Due to very bad conditions in the old facility the county will soon either have to close the current jail and pay to house inmates in other counties or build a new jail of their own.
Neither decision will be cheap.
The cost of housing inmates somewhere else could range from $50 to $75 dollars per day plus the expense of transporting those offenders back and forth for court appearances.
Those expenses would easily run in the hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.
Edgar County Sheriff Ed Motley wants to revamp the current showers and fix current door locks to give more time to come up with a solution before they are closed by the state.
No matter what is done time is running out for Edgar County to come up with a solution before one is imposed by the state.
