A Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputy is involved in a Tuesday afternoon crash.
It happened just afternoon at the intersection of US231 and County Road 700 South in Putnam County.
Indiana State Police say that 58 year old Deputy Thomas P. Helmer, of Cloverdale, was driving his Chevrolet Tahoe patrol vehicle southbound on US 231 behind another deputy with emergency lights and siren on.
As Helmer approached CR 700 S, northbound and southbound motorists had pulled off the road to allow the deputies to pass. As soon as the first deputy passed by, an SUV driven by 29 year old Amy Jackson of Greencastle pulled out and attempted to make a left turn onto CR 700 S. That is when the two vehicles collided.
Both were treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital. Jackson was cited for Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle and No Insurance. The deputies were en route to a theft in progress call at the time of the crash.
