Accused Bank Robbers Arrested

After receiving multiple overnight tips from the public, Indiana State Police Detectives and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents arrested two Terre Haute men for allegedly robbing the First Financial Bank in Farmersburg on Monday. Police say that 43 year old Kenneth E. Shelton of Terre Haute, allegedly was the one who went into the bank and demanding money from a teller.

Shelton was arrested at the home of a friend on Wilson Street in Terre Haute and is currently held in the Sullivan County Jail. Also arrested was 20 year old Ryan M. Ellinger, of Terre Haute.

Police say that he was the driver of the getaway vehicle and was arrested at his place of employment on Crawford Street in Terre Haute. Shelton and Ellinger have each been preliminarily charged with one count of Robbery. The FBI and Indiana State Police received numerous community tips after local media outlets showed bank surveillance photos of the robbery. The tips, along with aggressive work by federal, state, and local detectives, resulted in today’s arrests. ISP detectives have recovered a significant amount of evidence related to the case, but the actual items cannot be publicly released.
