You can now be an illegal immigrant and get an Illinois drivers license.
Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn signed the bill into law this weekend which makes the Land Of Lincoln the fourth state in the nation to allow that.
Quinn says people need a way to get to work, drive to the doctor and drive their children to school.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the new law should serve as a model for the nation.
Illinois officials say the dissemination of the three year temporary licenses is expected to begin in November.
The illegals must also purchase insurance.
The legislation was billed as a public safety measure and had bipartisan support.
Illinois will not require applicants to be fingerprinted, for fear that would discourage immigrants from applying.
