Indiana State Police and Parke County authorities were called out on a report of a dump truck leaking soil onto a Catlin Road near County Road 200 South which is just south of Rockville. A motorist told police that the rear dump gate was loose and spilling the contents of the truck.
The truck driver was identified as 48-year-old Timothy Parke of Jamestown, who stopped before police arrived.
Police say that the dirt on the truck was contaminated with crude oil that had come from a clean-up site nearby.
About five tons of soil had been lost over a nearly two-mile stretch of Catlin Road.
A hazardous material crew needed about three hours to clean everything up.
The driver was cited by state police.
