Concerns expressed at last night’s Clay County School Board meeting over a proposal to go to a “Balanced Calendar”
The concept would mean a shorter summer break and longer breaks during the school year.
School officials say that research shows that the balanced calendar would mean better student and teacher morale, attendance, and attention. Several people raised concerns over an earlier start to the school year, which would overlap with the 4-H fair. If adopted, the balanced calendar would count as an excused absence for students participating in 4-H. In the end the board decided to hold several public hearings on the issue before the February meeting.
