Day 5 in the murder trial of a Paris, Ill. teen sees the defendant take the stand.

18 year old Terry Payton is accused of stabbing his mother, Kathie Payton, to death in June 2011.

The defense says that it was in self defense.

On the stand Payton testified that his mother began drinking alcohol more and more as he grew older and that her anger intensified.

Payton also said his mother often accused him of stealing large amounts of money from her safe, something he said he did not do.

He said that his mother kicked him out of their home several times, beginning when he was in middle school

The stories just got worse.

He said that he stabbed her in self defense when she attacked him.

At the end of court yesterday both the prosecution and defense rested.

Their closing arguments are scheduled for Thursday morning and then the jury will get the case.
