A bill working its way through the Indiana house would prohibit public schools from deducting union dues for teachers.
Republicans are for the move while democrats call it an attack on unions.
Republican Rep. Jeff Thompson of Linton says he sponsored the ban because he doesn’t believe a governmental unit should be involved in collecting union dues. Democratic Rep. Kreg Battles of Vincennes says the paycheck deductions are a common courtesy that cost school districts nothing.
