A call today from representatives of the Vigo County Retired Teachers Association wanting to clear up a misunderstanding. The Association is saying that the organization is a non-partisan group and that they have nothing to do with the gun buy back program. There may be members of their organization who are active in this program but the Retired Teachers Association is not for or against the Gun By-Back program.
The representative said that they had received several calls that expressed concern about their reported support of the program.
A gun buy-back program is set for April in Terre Haute.
Terre Haute Police and Vigo County's League Of Women Voters will offer gift cards for guns.
Organizers say that the reason for gift cards instead of cash is so that people won’t take the money and upgrade their weapons.
Police say guns they collect will be destroyed.
They'll hold the event at Meadows Shopping Center April 13th.
