If you thought you were going to save money by driving a hybrid or electric car, then think again.
There is a proposal in the Indiana House that would tax those of you who drive alternative “green” cars.
Why do they want to do that when you are trying to not buy foreign oil and save the planet?
Its’ because you aren’t paying nearly what officials want you to in gas taxes.
The gas tax helps to fund road repairs and when you use less gas then there are fewer dollars for fixing the road.
Right now 16 cents of the price of every gallon you buy at the pump goes to fix pot holes.
This new proposal would require owners of clean energy vehicles to pay a road use tax in PLACE of gas tax.
So is it worth it to buy the alternative cars? It depends on how much you drive, where you drive and how long you plan to keep the car.
