There has been allot of talk lately about putting officers in every Vigo County School to insure safety.
Last week, Vigo County Sheriff Greg Ewing announced his plan to increase security at rural schools and that plan would cost a total of $270,000 for just the schools in the county.
That cost only covers salaries.
There are other items, like patrol cars and equipping them, weapons for the officers that aren’t covered in the cost estimate.
Sheriff Ewing says that he has many items needed for the cars and weapons for the officers.
He also says that he plans on buying used cars and that two area businesses have already said they would buy cars.
The plan will only move forward if the County Council votes to fund their $135,000 share and that could happen next month.
Vigo County prosecutor Terry Modesitt says that his office could offer up 30,000 dollars to help with the program.
