Kyle Marvel of Terre Haute was approved for a work release Thursday when he appeared in court.
He is being charged with battery resulting in serious bodily injuries.
Officials say 74-year-old Judith Maples suffered cuts, bruises, and multiple fractures all over her body when she was beaten by Marvel back in August.
