Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett gave his state of the city address yesterday at the Vigo County Library.
They mayor pointed to new economic development from current and new businesses in town and he also said that reports of a deficit are somewhat misleading and that the city is not in financial trouble. As for the financial future of the city, there could be problems with property assessments going down by 7%.
As for crime, violent crimes were up 11% but property crimes are at their lowest rate in 20 years.
The mayor said that even though there are issues to be addressed, there are many positive things happening in Terre Haute.
