With Eli Lilly and Co. set to see patents expire on its best-selling drug at year’s end, that’s the antidepressant Cymbalta, the pressure is on to produce.

Lilly may be in a position to submit five new drugs for regulatory approval this year. Lilly sells about $5 billion worth of Cymbalta annually.

Lilly will submit a new drug for several types of cancer, and three new drugs for type 2 diabetes.
