Adam Levine , who's launching his first signature fragrances this month exclusively at Macy's stores and Macys.com, says when he was coming up with the self-titled scents, he didn't want to get too fancy.

Speaking to Women's Wear Daily , the Maroon 5 frontman says, "I wanted to do something understated and elegant...I like basic fragrances. I didn't want to smell like a department store."

What he came up with, reports WWD , is a mix of spice, Indian jasmine petals, Australian sandalwood, rose petals and vanilla for his women's fragrance, and mandarin, grapefruit, lemongrass, amber, sandalwood and cedarwood for the men's.  The fragrances come in bottles that resemble microphones, and range in price from $35 to $65, depending on size.  Sources tell WWD that the scents could rake in $25 million in its first year alone.

Adam also tells WWD that he wanted to come out with both a men's and a women's fragrance, for his fans and for himself.  "We had to come to terms with the reality that we have a very big female fan base...but at the same time...I wanted to create something that I would feel comfortable wearing," he explains.

Adam will make an in-store appearance at Macy's Herald Square in New York City on February 15, one day before Maroon 5 performs at Madison Square Garden.  Starting February 8, if you're one of the first 300 customers in the door to buy a special Adam Levine fragrance package for $90, you'll get a VIP pass to meet the singer and have a picture taken with him on the 15th.
