About 40 vehicles crashed on the west side of Indianapolis on Interstate 70 in Hendricks County.

The crash included 20 semi trailers and another 20 other types of vehicles.

Indiana State Police are saying weather was a factor.

12 people were sent to local hospitals.

Although some patients were considered seriously injured, all patients were expected to survive.

One of the semi-trucks involved in the accident was carrying three elephants.

They had to be unloaded by their handler so that the truck could be pulled out of the median and put back on the road way.

They elephants were unharmed and are safely on their way.
