Illinois Governor Pat Quinn wants to raise the states minimum wage to at least $10 by Christmas of next year.
The minimum wage in Illinois is $8.25.
Quinn said Wednesday that raising the wage will help eliminate poverty.
The Illinois chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business doesn’t agree and says that Illinois' smaller companies are still struggling as they try to recover from the recession and raising labor costs won’t help to do anything but kill jobs.
Illinois last raised the minimum wage in 2010.
