The Northeast School Corporation school board voted last night 3-2 to close Union-Dugger High School in Dugger.
It was a decision that was not a surprise.
At the meeting that was held at North Central High School the board decided to also to close Dugger Elementary School.
Shelburn Elementary will also be closed and reopened at a grade 6-8 middle school.
Farmersburg Elementary and Hymera Elementary will then house grades K-5.
All of these changes will take effect at the end of this school year.
The restructuring is meant to save money.
It was a move that was not popular with anyone, even the group that advocated the changes to help make the school district financially sound.
A recent study shows that it was costing Northeast Sullivan $9,000 per year per student at Union High School but they were receiving only $6,000 per year in state funding per student.
They group that was advocating keeping the school open said that they might consider legal action.
