As the first of the year nears, so do several new laws in Illinois. One of those laws will increase the speed limit on rural highways up to 70 mph.
The Illinois Department of Transportation says they already have the nearly 900 new speed limit signs all made up and ready to go.
The installation of the signs will begin January 1st and continue until completed.
The whole job should be done by the middle of the month.
But keep in mind, until the signs are changed motorists will be expected to obey whatever speed limit is posted.
