An internet scam in the Valley.
Authorities say that some have been listing houses for rent on Craigslist.
The person placing the ad says that when you send the deposit for rent by mail they will return the keys.
The problem is that they don’t send the keys because they don’t own the house.
One house used in the ad was on Barton Avenue and it did have signs out front showing it was available so that made the fake ads on Craigslist look legitimate.
Police remind you to make sure that you don’t send money through the mail to people that you have not checked out.
Cyber crimes are difficult to prosecute because the perpetrators are hard to find and are often in a different state or a different country.
