At last night’s Vigo County School Board meeting the board unanimously approved a new, one-year contract with the Vigo County Teachers Association.
Vigo County teachers who were rated as “effective” or “highly effective” under the new state review system will receive a 2.2-percent raise to their base salary for the 2013-14 school year. Those rated “ineffective” or “needs improvement” will not receive a raise.
It’s estimated the district will receive only about $99,000 in new state funding for 2013-14 and because of that the school corporation will have to use part of its cash balance and money saved by some teachers retiring, to help pay for the raises.
Last night the board also discussed the 2014 proposed budget of $148 million dollars.
No one from the public made any comments.
The board is expected to adopt the budget on Sept. 9.
