The Clay County Sheriff's Department is now a part of a federal program that could mean that the county will make some money by renting out jail space.
The sheriff's department has been approved to be a part of the federal government's Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) program.
This means that illegal aliens that are awaiting a deportation hearing for allegedly commiting a crime could be held in the Clay County Jail as they make their way to different facilities across the country.
The federal government pays the county for housing and transporting the prisoners.
In addition the county will receive more money for more jailers and training for them.
