A new movie executive-produced by Alicia Keys, and starring American Idol alums Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks , now has a release date. Indiewire.com reports The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete will be in theaters October 11.
The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete is a coming-of-age story about two scared Brooklyn kids, 14-year-old Mister and his nine-year-old best friend, Pete, who are forced to fend for themselves over the summer after their moms abandon them. Jennifer plays Gloria, the hard-living, tattooed, drug-addicted mother of 14-year-old Mister, who is eventually arrested.
Jordin's part is smaller: her character's name is Alice, but it's not clear how she fits into the plot. While Jordin and Jennifer's parts have nothing to do with music, Alicia's involvement in the movie does: in addition to executive-producing the film, she also composed its score.
Jennifer tells ABC News Radio that she wanted to take the role because of its "diversity." "It's something so drastically different from a Dreamgirls, from a comedy, Sex in the City , all of those things, even Winnie , something very different" she says, referring to her starring role in a biopic about Nelson Mandela's former wife. Jennifer says she enjoys "expanding" herself as an actress.
