After a homeless person was killed and another injured in a dumpster accident last week, community leaders got together to discuss the issue of homelessness in Terre Haute.
Those in attendance talked about the issues included the treatment of military veterans, the challenges for teens who leave home because of abuse and government regulations that make it harder for people in need to get help.
The discussion was initially meant to be part of a bigger “homelessness simulation” Friday night at Gilbert Park.
Only three people showed up so it was cancelled.
Planners said poor weather may have led in part to the low turnout.
The irony of the fact that poor weather is something that homeless people deal with daily was not lost on most.
