Back in February, when Fall Out Boy announced their surprise return to action after a three-year hiatus, they had already spent the past year and a half secretly booking a tour and completing their new album Save Rock and Roll . Why didn't they tell anyone they were back together before that? Because, according to Pete Wentz , they wouldn't have been able to live up to the hype.
"I can't imagine trying to make an album after making the announcement," the bass player tells Billboard . "The pressure is crazy to me."
While rumors that the band was working on new music did circulate, Wentz said he felt comfortable shooting them down, even though they actually were true. There was, however, one moment when he thought their secret had been exposed.
According to Wentz, after he had dinner with rapper 2 Chainz to discuss his appearance on the album, the rapper posted a picture online announcing "Fall Out Boy featuring 2 Chainz." So why didn't that let the cat was out of the bag? Turns out the idea was so far-fetched that nobody believed it.
"Kids were like, 'Nope, too crazy.' They denied it themselves. It boggles my mind!" Wentz laughs.
Fall Out Boy is set to hit the road next month to support Save Rock and Roll . The tour starts May 14 in Milwaukee and winds its way through the U.S. and Europe this summer before returning to the U.S. for a leg of arena dates in September. Check out FallOutBoy.com for the full itinerary.
