The Illinois House has approved the use of marijuana for medical purposes. Lawmakers voted to allow physicians to prescribe marijuana to patients with specific terminal illnesses or debilitating medical conditions. The legislation now goes to the state Senate.
Similar legislatioin was approved back in 2009.
The bill requires patients and caregivers to undergo background checks and there woiuld be a limit set at 2.5 ounces per patient per purchase. Gov. Pat Quinn hasn't said whether he would sign the measure.
