One person was killed in an early morning dumpster incident in downtown Terre Haute yesterday. Authorities say that a man and woman were apparently sleeping in a dumpster a store on Locust Street.

The trash truck emptied the dumpster and then continued on to at least two or three more stops before stopping at the Hilton Garden Hotel on Wabash.

When the driver got out of the truck to open a gate he heard banging noises and yells from inside the truck.  Emergency crews were called out and that is when two people were removed from the back of the truck.

46 year old Franshon Barr was killed while the unidentified woman was flown to an Indianapolis hospital with severe injuries.

Officials say that fatal accidents like this are uncommon but that finding people in the dumpsters is not.

Drivers report seeing people jump out just before the containers are lifted and emptied into the trucks.

Those that work with the homeless say that sometimes homeless shelters are not used out of shame or to avoid the shelter rules.
