In Illinois the State Department of Public Health says that it will spend $3.4 million to help 90 agencies fight the West Nile virus.
Last year Illinois had 290 human cases of West Nile virus and 12 deaths.
The money is to be used for prevention programming inform the public about the virus and to investigate reports of the virus.
Officials will also use some of the funds for testing birds and mosquitoes for West Nile.
